CIA hired Karzai brother, but, what about Hamid?

What interests me about this article?

It isn't the fact that Hamid Karzai's brother is on the CIA payroll and has been for some time. I've already covered that bit of news in an older post.
So, it isn't that news I find interesting. You may recall I have made mention that the media lies by omission.

Here is an example of that in this article

Ahmed Wali Karzai, the half-brother of Afghanistan’s president and boss of the strategically important Kandahar province, has been on the CIA payroll for over a decade.
By the fall of 2008, Woodward says, “Ahmed Wali Karzai had been on the CIA payroll for years, beginning before 9/11. He had belonged to the CIA's small network of paid agents and informants inside Afghanistan. In addition, the CIA paid him money through his half-brother, the president.” (for how long?)

Hamid Karzai was plucked from obscurity and installed as president after U.S.-backed Afghan forces chased the Taliban from power following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Hamid Karzai was "plucked from obscurity". Really???

No mention that Hamid Karzai was a UNOCAL man? Perhaps not an employee, maybe a consultant, but he was connected. NO mention of the fact that UNOCAL has a long history of involvement with Afghanistan, the Taliban, including but not likely limited to the the battle for a pipeline? Though the writer acknowledges the CIA paid his brother through him. Obscure ?

UNOCAL was negotiating with the Taliban prior to 9/11 for construction of a pipeline through Afghanistan.

The Taliban in Texas
- A spokesman for the company, Unocal, said the Taleban were expected to spend several days at the company's headquarters in Sugarland, Texas.

Unocal says it has agreements both with Turkmenistan to sell its gas and with Pakistan to buy it.

The Hamid Karzai connection?
Archived here, an article from 2002.

To make things even smoother, the U.S. engineered the rise to power of two former Unocal employees: Hamid Karzai, the new interim president of Afghanistan, and Zalmay Khalizad, the Bush administration’s Afghanistan envoy.

Karzai, plucked from obscurity? What a ridiculous assertion.

From Global Research

Just nine days after the US-backed interim Afghan government of Hamid Karzai (a former Unocal executive) took office, George W. Bush appointed former Unocal aide Zalmay Khalilzad as the new special envoy. Khalilzad reports to National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice, a former Central Asian envoy for Chevron.

It is interesting to note, that prior to 9/11 and just after, Hamid Karzai's name appeared intertwined with UNOCAL's on a regular basis. The connection has fallen into the memory hole as of late.

But the idea that Hamid Karzai was plucked from obscurity, despite the history, despite his brother's long, long time connection to the CIA is preposterous.

Control the information, control your thoughts.

  1. Hamid must have been a CIA asset?

  2. Entirely possible.
But, there was no way in hell he was plucked from obscurity.
