Obama visits India. What is on the agenda? Elite N-club membership

What is on the agenda?

5 Billion dollars worth of arm's sales?

Membership in the elite N-club?

The India-US nuclear deal is poised to take another leap with Obama expected to endorse India's membership to the world's top non-proliferation regimes, like Wassenaar Arrangement and Australia Group. Due to some NPT sensitivity, the US is likely to give "forward-leaning" support for a future Indian membership to the Nuclear Suppliers Group

I am going to be honest, this is the first I have heard of the Wassenaar Arrangement.
If you have not heard of this arrangement either, you can read about it here

The Wassenaar Arrangement has been established in order to contribute to regional and international security and stability, by promoting transparency and greater responsibility in transfers of conventional arms and dual-use goods and technologies, thus preventing destabilising accumulations. Participating States seek, through their national policies, to ensure that transfers of these items do not contribute to the development or enhancement of military capabilities which undermine these goals, and are not diverted to support such capabilities.

In the article regarding India's inclusion in the N-club. If one reads a little further you will note the mention of another nation that is part of the Wassenaar Arrangement. A country that continues to be evasive over it membership in the "elite N-Club" Well get to that briefly, but first let's get back to that article.

A possible Indian membership to these groups will not only open India Inc's access to advanced and controlled technologies, it will also bring India into a tightly run club, which controls the flow of advanced military, civilian and dual-use technologies to non-members.
Essentially, it means benefits of nuclear deal can extend to not only civilian nuclear sector but cut across many applications, which, if utilised correctly, will open up a whole new universe to the Indian entrepreneurial class. "

The way I am reading this is by being a member of this Elite N club signatories to the Wassenaar Agreement, but NOT the non-proliferation treaty, can sell nuclear technologies to other nations. Military or otherwise.

In 2005, Israel, another country that has not signed the NPT, signed a classified agreement with the US to adhere partially to the Wassenaar Arrangement and worked out its export control laws by 2007.

In other words Israel has the ok to sell nuclear technology, military or otherwise to whomever.
A brief but interesting digression.
Now back to India.......
India also want to have membership in the Nuclear Suppliers Group and here's why-

More importantly, India wants to get into the tent before the NSG decides to block enrichment and reprocessing technology for non-members which would seriously hamper the development of India's civilian nuclear sector.

So this group is going to decide who has nuclear technology and who doesn't by acting as a cartel, to control other nations? Sure reads that way.

Another discussion that may take place when Obama get's to India? Afghanistan.

This visit coincides with a critical stage of America's longest war in Afghanistan. This will occupy much of the behind-the-scenes activity, which essentially is the core of each other's national security concern.

President Obama's announcement of an Af-Pak strategy caused a lot of initial concern in New Delhi.

Analysts in New Delhi viewed it as a 'reductionist' strategy of containing the conflict at four levels -- Afghanistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan-Pakistan and the unstated goal of improving Indo-Pakistan relations, especially with regard to the conflict over Kashmir

The agenda? War, war and more war.

  1. Penny

Possible reasons for an Obummer visit to Injuh.

    -to curry favors

    -check out the new deli

    -visit 7-11 headquarters

    -catch a Taj Mahal concert

oh well just a few random thoughts.......

  2. It's already near the top of Google searches, so this must be some kind of back-room deal to get more WMD's and weapons that haven't been tested into the hands of those wanting to join America's Armies of Occupation.

Every so often, I wonder what kind of world we'd be living in if a fraction of all that money Western nations have spent on developing newer and more efficient ways of killing, if some of that had been use to research cures for cancer; solar energy; water purification; spinal injuries, etc.

But that wouldn't make near as much money for the war pigs running and ruining this wonder of creation Mother Nature was so kind and generous to let us live on... for now.

The USA, with it's racist past and racist present would seem to be a good fit with India's Caste System and that SLC, Apartheid Israel.

So much hatred and so little time to get all those negative vibes out to the planet.

Jesus H. Christ, where's the escape hatch, I want out!

  3. thanks for those random thoughts Dave.

They gave me a smile :)

Greg: I think we need as many sane persons as possible.
    Stick around.

  4. Dave - you gave me a good laugh there, thanks.

Business as usual for the USA.
