Frozen Waves in Nantucket:
The unusually cold winter of Massachusetts produced an incredible phenomenon 100 miles southeast of Boston on the island of Nantucket recently: frozen waves, or, as some are describing them, Slurpee waves.

Why am I mentioning this fact?!  Ocean water, being salty, requires colder temperatures to freeze!
'Ocean water freezes just like freshwater, but at lower temperatures. Fresh water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit but seawater freezes at about 28.4 degrees Fahrenheit , because of the salt in it.

 Cold Records Broken

Great Lakes Ice Cover Nearing 1979 Record

From earlier today-

The global warming slowdown is real — but that’s no reason to question climate science ??

Oh, yes it is!

  1. In my part of Calli at 1:57pm it's sunny and 61.9. The rain yesterday was .01. The state and feds will wait until the last minute to tell local farms what water they can have. The farmers below Modesto, Calif are being told there is No Water. Then again there's nothing wrong with Mother Nature. George Carlin. A long time ago I saw HST cover this same topic live in SF.

  2. Hi jo!

Mother Nature is going to do that which she does- that's just the fact of the matter
this earth has been frozen previously, this earth has been warmer previously
I am not sure that there is something "wrong" with mother nature. After all this planet is pretty beautiful and special-
Maybe it's more that we don't accept that the Earth does what the earth does and that causes us to judge things as wrong?
sigh... not trying to be difficult here jo, believe me the extreme cold is very worrying

California is dry and other parts of the planet are going to have real flooding issues- from all this snow- we will see how it goes here when this snow melts... which isn't coming any time this week that's for sure
In about three weeks time or just over we will start our tomato plants and I worry about the cool temperatures.
Last summer was so dam cool, our peppers and eggplants did poorly

But here is a crazy idea that has bandied around for years and it will create a whole new host of problems- sometimes man displays a level of stupidity that I can only shake my head at

As far back as 8 years ago- they were talkin about draining the great lakes to water your area of the globe which is simply absurd-
The solution may be that California may have to shift it's farming industry elsewhere
Or at least that appears to be the message the Earth is sending....
So it can rebuild the area.

" Mining ground water -but it has also simultaneously altered the surface of the land causing noticeable subsidence or sinking in the region, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It's not the richest farmland if there is no water
That ground water mining can't help with the rain issue- because that takes a big chunk of water out of Mother Nature's water Cycle

    Think of the dust bowl?

I know that is not much consolation- Like I said, if I could give you the snow all around me I would happily.

Perhaps like the other creatures we had better adapt or perish- shrugs shoulders

  3. what % of the great lakes are ice covered 03 09 2015

    1. You can't find that out until tomorrow, however the information I saw for today
is 78.5 percent as of yesterday- March 08/15 so the ice is retreating after peaking at 88.9 percent-

88.9 percent was the third highest level recorded- the two highest levels ever recorded were consecutive- this winter and the previous winter

    2. I mean two of the three highest levels occured in two consecutive winters
