Rare Snow Fall in the Sahara Desert- Only Twice in Living Memory

Analogy "Hell has Frozen Over"?? Sahara Desert is the largest hot desert in the world

Would snow falling in the desert be consistent with AGW theory?
Wonder what the temperature dipped too and stayed at for the snow to stay a day...??
This is pretty darn special- Link
The bizarre phenomenon was caught on camera by amateur photographer Karim Bouchetata. “Everyone was stunned to see snow falling in the dessert,” he said. “It is such a rare occurrence. It looked amazing as the snow settled on the sand and made a great set of photos. The snow stayed for about a day and has now melted away.
This is only the second time in living memory that snow has fallen on the Sahara. The first time was in February 1979, also in Algeria

I gotta admit the pictures are great! Might be our only chance to at least see images of Sahara Desert Snow....

Awesome
Amazing

Magnificent

Snow falls in Sahara desert for only 2nd time in living memory
Incredible photos capture freak snowfall in the Sahara Desert, believed to be first time it has fallen on the unforgiving red dunes in almost 40 years

Miraculous

  1. It isn't as cold as it was last year here in the UK. Feels a lot warmer.
I have no idea where that money went. Would $4 million be needed for an assassination? I don't know. All that is known is that this assassination gives a very strong message to Erdogan-you will be next. What do you think will happen next? It is so fustrating for me to see that the alt media still hasn't clogged on to the Turkey destabilisation yet, still blaming Erdogan. Idiots...

    1. Hey Ally

Lucky for you, cause so far, so cold.
We're headed for more normal temps for this time of year over the next few days- A break much needed
It is ice, ice and more ice

Back to assassination.. It's definitely a strong message to Erdogan

What do I think will happen next?

Well pretty sure the NATO allies are not happy with Turkey for this deal with Russia and Iran
As they haven't been happy with Turkey for some time..
Expect more terror attacks in Turkey- Possibly more assassinations
If you pay attention to the neo con crowd they've been hoping for exactly what happened in Turkey to happen- They're certainly hoping for more

I'm referencing Michael Rubin and AEI of course

Read the atlancticist point of view from years ago about Turkey

      2009
      http://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/new-atlanticist/misreading-turkeys-strategic-goals

"The Turks, who always used to complain to their Western allies about their rough neighborhood, apparently no longer have any enemies in the east. Turkey's old rival Russia has since become its most important energy and trading partner. Syria and Iraq, two countries with which Ankara has in the past been on the brink of war, are now friends of Turkey, and relations are even improving with Armenia"

So in 2009 the NATO crowd didn't like Turkey making friends with it's neighbours

"There's much, much more to the story, which is reading in full. The bottom line seems to be this: I've been misreading Turkey's strategic goals. While they clearly wouldn't mind being a part of the EU and having warmer relations with the West, it's clearly not the over arching priority"

Was the NATO alliance afraid of losing their grasp on Turkey that early on?
      it seems quite plausible

  2. While regular readers here will be up to speed on what's really going on here, I feel i have to lay it out for any new readers.

Dear New Reader, you may not be aware of this but Algeria is very close diplomatically to ... Russia! Now it doesn't take a genius to realise that Russia i.e ... Putin! ... wants to destroy our faith in science, the media and, worst of all, government.

So what is going on here? It's obvious isn't it? Yes, these photographs are FAKE. This whole story is FAKE NEWS. And to prove it, you will hardly see any mention of it in the properly authorised and government approved media. Only the so called alt media will peddle these lies to you (present blog excluded - for educational purposed only)

    1. Hey James

I was really struck by the news and the images
      the pictures are gorgeous

the lack of news coverage- predictable

snow in the Sahara- for the first time since 1979!!

a twice in a lifetime occurrence- quite amazing and definitely worth sharing- but alas people might just question- hey wait a minute...
If the planet is getting warmer and were being gouged with carbon taxes.. why is there snow in the Sahara Desert- In Africa.
Now I recall the late 70's including the blizzard of 77 and they were cold, cold winters..

Coincidentally in 1979 besides snow in the Sahara the Great Lakes were frozen only exceeded by the brutally cold frigid winter of 2014 here

but wait, none of that supports a warming planet theory... scratches head

I must be 'fake news' roflmao!!

      http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/nearly-frozen-lake-superior-ma/23439393

"With an end in sight, the winter of 2014 rages on, ushering in frigid arctic air and dumping record-breaking snow and ice on much of the nation. This season, ice coverage on the Great Lakes has exceeded all other measurements since 1979."

In the winter of 2014 we went to the ice caves on Lake Erie- They were neat, neat, neat
I've got pictures of hubby and I in the ice caves..
      that was a first!

    2. Amazing seeing the snow on the bright sand.

The ice caves would have been something to experience, Pen!

You might find this of interest as it relates to the snow in the Sahara. Remember, the elites always tell us the opposite of the truth.

It said the assassination aimed to undermine stability in Ain al-Hilweh and targeted national and Islamic unity, as well as fraternal relations with the camp's Lebanese neighbors.

The man, who has not been named, saw the driver of the truck flee from the scene and followed him, police told Welt newspaper. Keeping at a safe distance , he called police as he ran and gave the location of the fugitive. Police said they were not naming the heroic bystander as they believe he wishes to remain anonymous

  6. What's everyone's opinion on Russia agreeing to this nonsense ? Between the agreement on UN observers and Russia's call for a full nationwide ceasefire in Syria I'm getting a bit nervous.

" What does UN resolution on Aleppo mean for Russia-West relations? "

    1. I think the resolution is pretty much a non starter because everyone is cleared out of Aleppo and that's what it (resolution) was pushing for observers for the evacuation- dispatched in about 5 days time- Today's Thursday and the evacuation is complete

covered the deal news when it broke here:

      http://pennyforyourthoughts2.blogspot.ca/2016/12/breaking-un-reaches-deal-on-aleppo.html

"The resolution drafted by France and amended by Russia calls for Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon immediately to dispatch U.N. teams already on the ground in Syria to areas of eastern Aleppo to ensure safe passage for evacuees"

the vote passed on Monday- the day the ambassador was shot and its' being reported today
      the evacuation is done.

I think the Russian's accepted it because they knew they would have the terrorists out.

Not sure what else was included in the resolution, I shall check your link-thanks

President Vladimir Putin in a phone conversation and expressed readiness to step up cooperation with Russia in the fight against terrorism, the Kremlin press service said on Wednesday.

  8. Cool Penny, you made it on whatrealyhappened again. Only a pity it's for a not so breaking post.
As for the weather, it's not very cold here yet (it never really is) but it's really shitty weather. The whole year was meh, spring very late, summer wet except for 3 or 4 nice weeks, a windy but relatively dry automn with a few sub zero (celsius) days. Now on for the winter, they've announced colding, let's see.

    1. Yah, by wrh doesn't do that kind of stuff, I notice that
Just basic news items- unless it's member posted?

I thought the news about the snow in the desert was pretty anomalous-
Hubby looked at wikipedia and the page wasn't updated- what? I mean snow in the sahara??

Kind of like hell freezing over? no?

      Delete
    2. I wouldn't read too much into that. Not that snow in the Sahara is common, but it happens probably more often than reported. The thing with the Sahara is, it doesn't snow very often and there are very few people to report when it snows, so I'm quite sure that it probably has snowed more than twice in the last 20 years, but that noone was there to report it.
But it makes for a nice meme, so much that there's even a song about it in french https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DthZCeW108Q
sung by the gorgeous Indonesian singer Anggun.

  9. A PKk demonstration took place in town today. Muslim Kurds, with their women all covered up in headscarves and black gowns. Even the most nationalist Kurds are very religious. Terrible that this is allowed to take place in this country. Ocalan's propaganda at my university too :(
