Because for the New Year, I wish for critical thinking improvements.
And an increased awareness of how we are manipulated through the mainstream media and other outlets.
I also wish everyone well and very importantly good health for you and your loved ones.
A video I came across and it looks most interesting. I haven't watched it yet, so like you all, I will be enjoying it over the next couple of days!
Knowledge is power and it does not just belong to the so called "elites"
Empower yourselves so you can protect yourself and your loved ones.
Consuming Kids: The commercialization of Childhood
You might have seen some of these, you might not have. Either way, I thought they were pretty interesting and still worth posting.
First news story:
Prior to Christmas it is alleged, a suspected weapons smuggler from Iran, was arrested in Afghanistan. Many news stories were written, ink spilled, hand wringing and all that.
The Jerusalem Post devoted much time and space to promoting the idea that this was an Iranian and that the Iranians are bad, bad, bad. The usual kind of stuff from that media outlet. The Jerusalem post is claiming it was an Iranian and that Afghanistan was covering up, to save face.
But! It was reported afterward that the suspected weapons smuggler was not even Iranian.
Suspected Afghan weapons smuggler "not Iranian guard"
Not only was the weapons smuggler not Iranian guard, the ISAF declined to comment at all on the nationality of the smuggler!
"ISAF declined to comment on the nationality of the man"
Had this weapons smuggler been Iranian, the ISAF would have crowed loudly from the rooftops.
So what nationality was the weapons smuggler?? What nation is constantly demonizing Iran? The Jerusalem Post article is one clue. The refusal to identify the man's nationality is your other clue. Put it together, and there it is. The most sensible nationality of the arms smuggler.
Next back burner story-
I have covered the death of honeybees a number of times on the blog.
This was interesting!
Why Honeybees are Dying Off
It seems that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which is supposed to, you know, protect our environment, is about as effective as a teacher letting kids slack on their homework. Documents have recently leaked -- thanks to a Colorado beekeeper -- that show that the EPA approved of the pesticide clothianidin in 2003, which is knowingly toxic to bees and is already banned in Germany, France, Italy and Slovenia, reports Grist.
Not only do bees ensure the life cycle of plants (so to kill them in order to grow more plants seems painfully counterproductive), they also create honey, which is as diverse in flavor as the fields of flowers around a hive, and in its raw form is even believed to counteract allergies. (Honey from your area contains a small dose of your area's pollen, much like a vaccine.) But frankly, that's all shot to dust if this pesticide stays on the market.
Introduced in spring 2003 by German agrichemical manufacturer Bayer, despite warnings and the need for proper tests on how it would affect bees, clothianidin was used in billions of plants along the corn belt. And in 2009, Bayer made about $262 million in sales, reports Grist.
Not so coincidentally, bees have been dying off steadily ever since, from what researchers call colony-collapse disorder. Like other pesticides, clothianidin is "taken up by a plant's vascular system and expressed through pollen and nectar," Grist cites from the Pesticide Action Network of North America (PANNA), which leaked the EPA documents with the organization Beyond Pesticides. The EPA went so far as to grant Bayer an extension on a study, well after clothianidin was approved for use.
The EPA, always protecting the environment, NOT.
Third back burner news piece:

Secrets of the Federal Reserve
Quoting from "Barefoots World"
"Secrets of the Federal Reserve by Eustace Mullins, as controversial as it may seem to some, is placed on the web as a valid and well researched viewpoint of the history of U.S. and World Banking manipulations, and to keep it from disappearing.
Why would anyone disappear a book?
"The Quality of Freedom-Khodorkovsky, Putin, and the Yukos affair"
Written by Richard Sakway.
Check out the names associated with the "martyr" Khodorkovsky.
Khodorkovsky, liked to describe himself as 3 genrations of Rockefellers rolled into one.
Robber Baron, yes.
Business man, sure, when business man is synonymous with thief.
Philanthropist, yes, he saw himself as a philanthropist. Which surely indicates he is delusional.
Khodorkovsky, has long been a member of the RAND-US Business Leader forum-Invitation Only.
A group that also included Donald Rumsfield and Kenneth Lay.
Khodorkovsky joined Carlyle.
All in all this man was well connected. And was in a position to aid in the balkanization of Russia.
Update: The PR Firm Khodorkovsky hired to revamp his image was APCO Worldwide
APCO is no stranger to controversy. The firm was in the trenches at WorldCom as executives testified on Capitol Hill in 2002 for falsifying profits.
Amazing how well managed everything is, by PR firms. In the trenches while Worldcom executives testified on Capitol Hill for falsifying profits.
I wonder were they present when Khodorkovsky came to town to testify in front of Congress??
Mr Khodorkovsky, who has been invited by the US Congress to testify before
a committee investigating the money laundering allegations, said the money
transfers were so large that they must have come from many different sources.
"I was very surprised by this enormous sum. But I do not think that all
this sum concerns money laundering, or even capital flight," Mr
"I think there is an element of criminal money. But the bulk of the money
reflects attempts by Russian importers of consumer goods to avoid taxes,"

Grab a coffee, tea, water, wine..whatever, whichever and spend some time reading.
If your reading this information for the first time, you are going to need some background to connect the dots.
First read here, then follow up with this.
If you have already been following along, no need to refresh, just start reading below!
From the St. Petersburg Times published in 2005.
A business section op-ed published in response to a jailhouse letter from Khodorkovsky.
I believe this is the Khodorkovsky letter. Though, the blogger for Khodorkovsky has it published in two parts, one longer, one edited, both feeling very westernized.
By that I mean, intended for a Western audience.
Quoting from the version posted December 28th, I note some interesting language.
" the first green shoots" as written by Khodorkovsky?
Odd, Obama has used the same language? "Green Shoots". So has bankster Ben Bernanke.
This is the language of a Washington based Public Relations firms.
There is a lot of what can rightly be called "playing victim" contained in his jailhouse speech.
But, some is just laughable-
" I pity the greedy people who have acted so crudely and senselessly towards the minority shareholders of YUKOS."Khodorkovsky, though not speaking of himself, should be! He screwed the Yukos shareholders, he screwed the bank depositors. Him, he did it. What incredible moxy and again, I am noting that this sentence is straight from his Washington based Public Relations firm. The one that he hired to remake him into a "crusader for stockholder and investor rights"
I have to figure out which one he hooked up with.
I will wager his so called letter was actually written for him by this PR Firm.
Enough, of Khodorkovsky's "letter"/advertisement.
Let's look the response it garnered, linked above, from the St. Petersburg Times, entitled: "Khodorkovsky, The Dubious Martyr"
I am just going to quote bits of it-
Khodorkovsky rails against the rapacious bureaucracy, predicting that the angry mob will soon be baying for its promised bread and circus. Well, perhaps, but wouldn't it be odd if a nation that quietly suffered the indignities of 1998 - left hungry, cold and utterly destitute following the collapse of the pyramid erected by the oligarchs - should rise up in protest now?
To use his own analogy, at present the people enjoy both bread and circuses. During the Boris Yeltsin regime they lacked not for circuses - loans-for-shares was my personal favorite - but the bread was cruelly missing. The bureaucracy may well be rapacious, but the state budget apparently benefits, too. Wages and pensions are now paid, in cash, in full and on time
Does it justify the original purchase of Yukos for some $300 million - never actually paid - in a rigged auction or the bloody takeover of Apatit?
Menatep policy has been one of scorched earth. Hundreds of millions of dollars were lavished on a fiercely anti-Russian PR campaign, corrupting eminent academics and foundations in Moscow and abroad.
Mikhail, the oligarchic model has been tried already. It was not a resounding success. Perhaps it was unavoidable, yet it was a road that led past ruin, default and penury, through the plunder of Russia and the impoverishment of Russians. Where was your concern for justice and the sanctity of property rights when Menatep Bank defaulted, or when cash flows were diverted offshore and multibillion dollar assets redistributed among a handful of cronies? Why such virtuous indignation only now? Isn't it a question of whose ox is being gored?
Yes, Mikhail where was your concern for justice? Where was your concern for the people of Russia, you claim to feel affinity with. Why didn't you actually pay for Yukos? How about the depositors of your "failed" private bank? Did you weep for the injustice of the stolen deposits?
Did you concern yourself with the starvation? Did you lie awake at night thinking of the increase in alcoholism, the lowered life expectancy, the general destitution, that you and the other oligarchs had brought to bear on the people? I am certain you did not.
Did you imagine that the Russian people would storm the Kremlin walls for you? Or was it your American friends whose openly avowed neo-imperialism blinded them to the Russian political realities? You can always spend some time reading up on bankster extraordinaire Larry Summers and his roll in the pillaging of Russia, for some additional information.
Mikhail, your conception of patriotism is quite singular. Yes, others before you have fought the state tooth and nail, but they at least refrained from couching their self-interest in terms of patriotism.
Self-interest dressed up as patriotism. You gotta love that!!
But, let's move on to this piece: Insider Reveals Details Of Russia's Greatest Financial Scam
Published in 2003, Where we meet Yelena Collongues-Popova, 49
On Aug. 4, she sent the Russian Tax Police six pounds of documents, including corporate papers, trading reports and bank statements from 1996 to 2000, that she says show insider dealing and tax evasion by Golubovich on behalf of himself and the Menatep empire controlled by Khodorkovsky.
Collongues-Popova provided the MVD with her documents, the MVD, in return, made available to her papers that show that her signature and identity were used without her knowledge for transactions of Yukos shares. It is a crime to do a stock transfer without knowledge of the owner or through falsification of the owner's signature.
He said, "The MVD sent us documents relating to Yelena receiving shares of Yukos. According to documents she had ownership of zillions (recall American investor Kenneth Dart and the dilution of shares) of shares and that she transferred them to other entities. But she did not have the shares. A lot of [the transfer documents] were not signed by Yelena. He said the MVD had found papers "with Yelena involved in companies she didn't know she was involved in. It may be that some of those Yukos shares are invalid, because she didn't sign those papers." He said, "We got pages of questions from the MVD: 'Did you sign this, did you sign that?' They asked for fingerprints and a notarized signature."
Kinsbourg explained that, through offshore companies, Collongues-Popova and her son, a former colonel in the Russian special services, had been listed as directors of companies holding hundreds of million dollars worth of shares of Yukos and other Menatep companies.
Kinsbourg showed me numerous such papers. One of them was related to a company named Sequential Holdings. In 1999, Collongues-Popova was a director of Sequential Holding Russian Investor, a shell company that held 12.5 percent of Yukos.
Collongues-Popova worked directly with Golubovich at Menatep Trade House, then a branch of Menatep Bank. She says that at Golubovich's instruction, she set up 30 shell companies to be owned by him and registered in six countries.
Collongues-Popova was the director of many of the companies.
Collongues-Popova said she opened accounts "to receive money from other offshore companies." She said, "Significant transactions of stocks of private Russian companies quoted on the Moscow Stock Exchange passed under my signature in the years 1997 and 1998. They constitute the evidence of insider crimes and of infringements of the anti-monopoly laws." She said the companies were also used for "operations of tax evasion and transfer pricing."
Collongues-Popova noted that "certain 'mysterious' fortunes" grew along with the flight of capital from Russia, particularly at the time of the financial crisis of August 1998, and "supported by fictitious contracts intended to comfort the recipient banks" that "due diligence" had been done in the various bank havens." She said the resulting profits were "concealed in Switzerland, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Cyprus and the United States." She said transfers to the "great money-center banks" such as J.P. Morgan Chase, the Bank of New York and Citibank appear on the bank statements of the Swiss accounts under her signatures.
You may recall I mentioned this in the previous post, a man named Ernest Bankes claimed he had evidence of cash transfers going to the US banks. We also had the journalist Denis Roberts making accusations of impropriety in a book entitled Revalation$
What is amazing to me, and likely demonstrates the level of corruption in France, the independent journalist, his publisher and the French TV company Canal+ France had to pay Clearstream because they allegedly failed in their attempts to prove any and all allegations.
It is inconceivable that the publisher of the book, would not have vetted the book through it's legal department before publishing it? I also suggest it is not the responsibility of a journalist to "prove" his allegations. That is for a courtroom. He should be able to substantiate his allegations. Which in all likelihood he did, hence the publishing of the book.
In conclusion, finally. (big sigh) Khodorkovsky is no angel.
From what I have read, and I have spent hours and hours reading and looking for information he appears a criminal, a tax evader, he shafted everyone around him from shareholders to bank depositors, he aided in the impoverishment and misery of the people of Russia, for the enrichment of himself and his ilk.

Yesterday I covered the Khodorkovsky saga, a little. But, this sordid tale is worthy of some extra information.
So here it is-
First, if you didn't come away with the idea that Khodorkovsky is a front man for the Rothschild's banker clan, you really weren't paying attention to yesterday's post. Go back and re-read that post.
His meteoric rise and ability to amass so much power and wealth, including starting a private bank at such a young age, is quite frankly preposterous. And that billion dollar "import/export business"?? What exactly was that about? What was being imported and exported?
So let us take a look at the man and his interests.
I am going to open with the piece from the BBC. Not news but- spin, for lack of a better word.
I am going to quote specifically this-
"Mr Khodorkovsky made a lot of enemies among the ruling elite and his fellow businessmen by insisting early this century on adopting Western standards of transparency for his businesses while the rest continued to cloak their affairs in secrecy. "
Positively hilarious!! "Western standards of transparency". Oh my!!
"While the rest continued to cloak their affairs in secrecy".
Seriously, this is a direct quote.
Here is additional info on Khodorkovsky's transparency-
I already covered the secret, "previously unknown arrangement" with Jacob Rothschild. How do you like that transparency so far ?
From a Frontline show, done in 2003- Rich in Russia
His other interests and interesting associates:
Bank Menatep, Trust Investment Bank and Menatep International Financial Alliance; investment firms Global Asset Management, the Blackstone Group, the Carlyle Group and AIG Capital Partners: information technology company Sibintek; telecom operators MKS, Macomnet, Metrocom, Rascom and Magistral Telecom; and, through his Open Russia Foundation, several Russian news publicationsNotoriety:
After a series of dubious business practices, Khodorkovsy has struggled with a poor public image. In 1998, his bank Menatep collapsed, yet Khodorkovsky managed to protect himself, despite damage to his depositors and creditors. (The bank also defaulted on a $236 million loan from Western banks.) In 1999, he moved the location of a Yukos shareholders meeting 160 miles from Moscow without advance notice to minority stockholders, keeping them from voting against the sale of Yukos's assets to an offshore company. That same year, he prepared a large issue of new shares that diluted the stake of American investor Kenneth Dart, who claimed Khodorkovsky defrauded him of millions of dollars.
Just more of that 'transparency' that the BBC piece mentions. Western style transparency.
So how does Khodorkovsky take care of his poor image, dubious business practices, the scamming of Yukos shareholders and the damage to his creditors and his depositors, despite protecting himself? How does he rectify his thieving ways?
He hires a PR firm!! I kid you not.
Khodorkovsky hired a Washington, D.C., public relations firm, and he is presenting himself as a crusader for stockholder and investor rights. Khodorkovsky donated $1 million of Yukos profits to the U.S. Library of Congress, and he set up the Open Russian Foundation, with Henry Kissinger.
Can it get any better then that?! Hire a PR firm and hook up with the war criminal Kissinger!!
Truth, truly is stranger then fiction.
Some more on this poor put upon fellow, who only wants to crusade for stockholder and investor rights and operate his business in a transparent fashion. (Yes, I am being completely facetious)
Khodorkovsky was one of the main beneficiaries of the "piratisation of Russia" when some of the juiciest state assets, including oil and metals, were sold for a song to Kremlin-connected businessmen.-
Recall yesterday, I noted that Khodorkovsky served in the corrupt Yeltsin government.
The sell-off of state assets by the Yeltsin regime marked the beginning of what may well be the most massive robbery of a state in history. Khodorkovsky and a handful of other Russian "oligarchs" came to control the country's vast natural resources but contributed precious little to the state budget. Private oil majors paid between 5 and 14 per cent in profit tax instead of the statutory 35 per cent, by resorting to various tax-evasion schemes which included transfer pricing, offshore trading and using tax-haven zones inside Russia. Estimates of super-profits washed out of the country in the 1990s vary from $150 to 300 billion.
Under Yeltsin's puppet regime:
Russia's Economics Minister German Gref recalled in an interview that talking about a new oil tax, Khodorkovsky had warned him: "Either you withdraw that law or I'll make sure you're sacked." Had Yeltsin and not Putin been at the helm of power at the time of the conversation, Khodorkovsky would have carried out his threat
But there was no need to have him sacked, Yeltsin was such a lackey, such a drunken buffoon. He was not running the country. The country was being run all around him, by bankers and thieves. Ooops, same thing.
Mikhail Khodorkovsky, now in prison, has been accused of money-laundering, among other things. Mikhail Borisovich Khodorkovsky (Михаи́л Бори́сович Ходорко́вский born June 26, 1963) is a Russian businessman a former Menatep was implicated in the diversion of US$4. 8 billion in IMF funds lent to Russia in 1998: this gave rise to the Kremlingate. Clearstream Banking SA (CB is the clearing division based in Luxembourg, of Deutsche Börse. Luxembourg (Groussherzogtum Lëtzebuerg Grand-Duché de Luxembourg Großherzogtum Luxemburg is a small Landlocked country in Western Europe, bordered by
Menatep Bank has also been accused by French journalist Denis Robert of having opened a non-published Cedel (predecessor to Clearstream) after Clearstream CEO André Lussi visited Khodorkovsky in Moscow.
"Menatep further violated the rules because many transfers were of cash, not for settlement of securities.,Settlement (of securities is the process whereby securities or interests in securities are delivered usually against payment to fulfill Contractual obligations A security is a Fungible, Negotiable instrument representing financial value Lucy Komisar is a New York City -based Investigative journalist. "For the three months in 1997 for which I hold microfiches Ernest Backes says, only cash transfers were transferred through the Menatep account. Ernest Backes (1946 Trier, Germany) was #3 of clearing chamber Clearstream (formerly Cedel in charge of relations with clients and was fired There were a lot of transfers between Menatep and the Bank of New York"
Natasha Gurfinkel Kagalovsky, a former Bank of New York official and the wife of Menatep vice president, was accused of helping launder at least US$7 billion from Russia, according to Komisar. US investigators have attempted to find out if some of the laundered money originated with Menatep. Furthermore, even though Menatep officially failed in 1998, though it oddly remained on Clearstream accounts for the year 2000. (The links in this bit came from the above article, you may find them interesting or not)
The point of this info is to demonstrate that Khodorkovsky was clearly up to something. And it was not transparency he was going for!
And maybe.... I better give it a break even though I have enough info for another part.

Netanyahu also responded to Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman's inflammatory comments about Turkey, saying that the foreign minister was only "expressing his opinion."
Lieberman on Sunday said that Turkey's demands for an apology over the Mavi Marmara raid were "beyond chuzpa."
So, murder in International waters is acceptable for the Israeli government?
It does seem so. When Israeli forces are committing the murders.
Refresh your memory: Israel brutally attacks Gaza Aid Ships, many murdered in cold blood.
A behind the scenes bankster family, and their connection to a news story breaking today.
Except you would never know there was any connection.
Good thing I have a long memory.
And I print up news that I find very interesting.
Ironically I came across the background news of this story just a few days ago...
So let's tackle the present news first: Mikhail Khodorkovsky has been found guilty.
Who is Mikhail Khodorkovsky? Who is he connected too?
- Mikhail Khodorkovsky was born June 26, 1963
- He opened his first business in 1986, a private cafe, and then in 1987, the Center for Scientific and Technical Creativity of the Youth. The center imported and resold computers, as well as a range of other products.
- In 1987 - four years before the fall of the USSR - he founded what would become Menatep, one of post-Soviet Russia's first private banks.
(At the age of 24 years old, this man has enough business moxy and funds to start one of the first private banks???. From a cafe and used computer business to a private bank?? )
-By 1988, he had built an import-export business with a turnover of $10 million a year.
-He made his first millions in the 1990s when the bank acquired massive amounts of shares in companies that were privatised for bargain prices.
-In December 1995, as a result of the so-called shares-for-loans auctions, Khodorkovsky's Menatep Group took control of the Yukos oil company. For the knockdown price of $350m.
-Mikhail Khodorkovsky, even served as deputy fuel and oil minister during Boris Yeltsin's presidency. (conflict of interest, insider knowledge)
Khodorkovsky and his company initially earned a reputation for dubious business practices, including diluting stakes held by foreign shareholders, notably the American investor Kenneth Dart.
After the 1998 financial crisis Yukos tumbled in value, but Khodorkovsky held on to the firm, dragging minority shareholders into courts to keep control of his empire.
Just two years later however, he was the darling of the Western stock markets.
That should be enough background on the man and his pilfering ways. Him and his partner are no doubt guilty of the crimes they have been charged with.
Dubious business practices indeed.
But, what is most interesting is the action Khodorkovsky undertook when he was arrested in 2003. I couldn't find any mention of this in the latest news reports.
So I will connect the dots for you. From Khodorkovsky to Jacob Rothschild
In 2003, when Khodorkovsky was arrested, he signed over all his shares in Yukos, to one
Jacob Rothschild, of the Rothschild banker and Oil family.
The Rothschilds have financed oil exploration in Russia since the Tsarist period, while Lord Rothschild has close connections with Yukos.
(Lord Rothschild has "close connections" with Yukos? Was Lord Rothschild the money behind the private bank and the Menatep Group mentioned above)
If all the top Yukos managers were unable to carry out the role, Lord Rothschild would take over, the company official told Kommersant on condition of anonymity.
The BBC was not alone in reporting this news. Though it did not enjoy widespread coverage.
The Washington Times covered it, and this was the article I saved so many years ago...
Control of Mikhail Khodorkovsky's shares in the Russian oil giant Yukos have passed to renowned banker Jacob Rothschild, under a deal they concluded prior to Mr. Khodorkovsky's arrest, the Sunday Times reported.
Voting rights to the shares passed to Mr. Rothschild, 67, under a "previously unknown arrangement" designed to take effect in the event that Mr. Khodorkovsky could no longer "act as a beneficiary" of the shares, it said.
A previously unknown arrangement??
I have been covering the scum banksters and their ill gotten, undeserved bonuses.
We had the Wall Street scum holding off on bonus payouts, less the have to pay their share of taxes.
Then we had the London banker scum threatening to quit their jobs, if they do not get their bonuses.
The bankers, you know, the ones that destroyed the global economy....intentionally.
Do want to get paid for a job well done.
Let's look at Ireland. Where the scumbanksters are getting their bonuses.
Austerity for the Irish citizenry and millions and millions for banksters!
Stricken Allied Irish Banks is preparing to hand out €40m (£34m) of bonuses next week – despite being on the brink of receiving another emergency bailout from the Irish government.
As many as 2,400 bankers in its Dublin capital markets division are to receive the payments on 17 December under agreements struck with the bank in 2008.
The bank, 19% owned by Ireland's taxpayers but expected to reach 95% state-ownership, had originally been blocked from making the payments under one of the government's bailout programmes.
But legal action by a trader, John Foy, over a deferred €161,000 bonus awarded in 2008 has led the bank to conclude it will need to pay bonuses to many of the staff to whom they were awarded for that year. The bonuses are being handed out at a time when the government is instigating four years of tax rises and brutal cuts to benefits. The most austere budget in the country's history was passed this week.

No, I am not going to put up John Lennon's video or song.
Even though I like it.
I am going to rehash something I have previously used at Christmas time.
It is a quote from "A Christmas Carol"
A story that seems especially poignant at this time, in this place, in this year.
For it is a tale, of redemption, yes.
But to be redeemed on has to have sinned, to have done wrong.
Sadly, there has been much sinning, much abuse and much done wrong this past year and for too many years.
But no redemption for the greedy and their despicable hording.
No, no redemption for them.
They who have long forgotten that they are no better then those they lord over. They have forgotten that they too are on the same life journey, to the grave, as those they abuse.
"But I am sure I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round -- apart from the veneration due to its sacred name and origin, if anything belonging to it can be apart from that -- as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time: the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow-passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. And therefore, uncle, though it has never put a scrap of gold or silver in my pocket, I believe that it has done me good, and will do me good; and I say, God bless it!'"
It is to all my fellow passengers, who have opened their hearts, giving freely of their time , to make positive change. Change with the hope of making this world a better place, to you fellow passengers, I wish you Happy Holidays, a blessed season, however you enjoy this time..
I wish you the best.

I will get to that briefly.
Ponder this first!?
NATO occupation of Afghanistan for years now, should ensure that so called 'Taliban' are not escaping across the border from Afghanistan into Pakistan??? Shouldn't it?
Should the occupation forces, during this lengthy engagement have secured the borders, in the so called tribal regions to prevent this claimed easy passage from occurring?
I would think that should be a priority? (Unless NATO troops have been occupied elsewhere? Say, guarding pipelines & poppy fields)
So we are to believe, that despite the longtime occupation of Afghanistan by NATO forces, the US is claiming they have absolutely NO CONTROL over the borders, necessitating incursions into Pakistan? Seems preposterous.
We have to look at two options stemming from these claims.
First- The US is fabricating the porous border story to justify there attacks on Pakistan.
Second- The porous unchecked borders are by design, again to justify the attacks on Pakistan.
How else to explain the ease with which the alleged Taliban is passing over the borders?
Then consider this....
I went back through my blog postings to see when I first mentioned that the US was intending to invade/occupy/balkanize Pakistan.
To a piece from August 5/2009 -Pushing South Asia Toward the Brink
Quoting from the piece and my comment:
The contradictions and confusions in U.S. policy in South Asia were on full display during Secretary of State Hilary Clinton's recent visit to India. U.S. support for India, which centers on making money, selling weapons, and turning a blind eye to the country's nuclear weapons, is fatally at odds with U.S. policy and concerns about Pakistan.
By enabling an India-Pakistan arms race, rather than focusing on resolving the conflict and helping them make peace, the United States is driving Pakistan toward the very collapse it fears
Maybe that is what the US is after, the collapse of Pakistan? August 5/2009!
The US/NATO allies have been maneuvering to bring Pakistan down for a while now.
I have covered the arms sales to India. The massive arms sales. And looked at all the factors at play, or at least as many as I can think of ? In this post and many others...
So I won't bore you to tears rehashing all that again.
I will just make note of what Pakistan has said in response to an increase in US operations on Pakistan's soil.
Pakistan says no U.S. troops operation in its tribal regions
Pakistan said on Thursday that it will not accept any ground operation by the U.S. troops in its tribal regions bordering Afghanistan.
New York Times reported on Tuesday that the Obama administration is close to approving a major expansion of Special Operations ground raids into Pakistani regions bordering Afghanistan.
"The United States knows our red lines on the issue," Pakistani Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said while responding to questions at the weekly news briefing about the New York Times report.
"Pakistan does not expect the United States to complicate matters involving counter-terrorism," the spokesman said, adding that NATO and ISAF mandate is restricted to Afghanistan and Pakistan's security forces are capable of taking action against militants and terrorists.
The spokesman said Pakistan is committed to fighting against terrorism and extremism. "It has been carrying out operations wherever required and Pakistani troops are already there in North Waziristan." He, however, said scope and timing of the operation in North Waziristan would be determined by Pakistan alone.
The New York Times acknowledged that the U.S. operation "would amount to the opening of a new front in the nine-year-old war, which has grown increasingly unpopular among Americans."
It reported that "senior American military commanders in Afghanistan" are pushing for the Obama administration to approve frequent ground raids into Pakistani tribal areas, where, according to Washington, Al Qaeda leaders have sanctuaries.
The U.S. also maintains that Taliban and other insurgent forces use the region, in particular, North Waziristan, as a staging area for attacks on the U.S. and NATO troops across the border in Afghanistan
I am starting to wonder if the South/North Korean activity is a sideshow, for the time being, for what should really be front & center stage?? The fact that the US/NATO alliance will ramp up the ongoing war in Pakistan. This is NOT the "opening of a new front" as quoted from the New York Times.
Ground troops in Pakistan would be an expansion of multi- front attacks on Pakistan that have been going on for quite some time now. Drone attacks, covert ops, attempted and successful assassinations of political leaders. Pakistan has been under attack for years, so there is no new front being opened.

You read this-
Bankers to quit if bonus payouts are curbed
With public anger at bankers in the wake of the financial crisis high and the Government threatening to clamp down on bonuses, many are saying they will do what their critics say they should — quit.Nearly half of workers in the financial services sector are threatening to find new jobs if their expectations for bumper bonuses are not met this Christmas.
The dissatisfaction would (could) lead to a wave of defections — though precisely where they would defect to is not explained.
I say, kick them to the curb!
By the way, if you are curious just how much these greedy people have been benefiting from the misery of the masses-
-Last year, £7.3 billion was paid out in bonuses to London bankers
-Bank workers have seen their pay increase by an average of 17% this year to compensate for the limited bonus payouts.
-Half said that they anticipated bonuses equivalent to 47% of their base salary
-In some areas, such as investment banking and mergers and acquisitions, hopes are even higher with the average bonus expected to be 72% of salary.
Soooo how many of you got a 17 percent pay increase?
How many of you are expecting a bonus equivalent to almost half of your yearly salary?
How many of you are expecting a bonus equivalent to nearly three quarters of your yearly salary?

An undeclared war.
But, if you click on the Pakistan label at the bottom of this post, you can refresh your memory
And, it seems it is expanding. Northward. Why Northward?
Obviously, it is time for a map!
The 'justification' (lie) for these attacks has always been the necessity to catch so called Taliban fleeing from Afghanistan.
I suspect that is the least of the reasoning, if it is a factor at all?
Let's take a look at the latest, shall we?
Drone activity in Pakistan moves northward, official says
As expected, and really no surprise.
- Intense drone activity in Pakistan's tribal region has moved northward
-Officials claim an increased militant presence in Khyber Agency, specifically the Tirah Valley.
-Three suspected U.S. drone strikes Friday were all concentrated in the Tirah Valley.
-The United States does not officially confirm that it has unmanned aircraft firing missiles at terror targets in Pakistan, but it is the only country in the region known to have the capability to do so.
What is the news out of Israel on the expansion of drone attacks?
US Keen to Take the Fight into Pakistan
But, bright and early this am...
Yah, well... I ain't buying that during the Christmas shopping season!
There are reasons that the US is hot for the war on Pakistan.
-Pakistan has "the bomb"!
-Therefore, there is always the Israel factor.
After all, this is a Muslim nation with nuclear weapons ..... And that just shouldn't be the case.
Not with Israel in the vicinity.
-There is the TAPI pipeline.
-Keep in mind the assassination of Bhutto. Who was behind that?
-Then an uncovered assasination plot of the present day PM, by a terrorist group funded by the west.
And there is one more item to be considered.
Look at the map. Click on it to get the entire map up.
Pakistan is bordered on the North East by China.
Take a look at that little bit of border, right there, shared with China.
If, the bombing of and eventual control of Pakistan would, could, lead to complete encirclement of China.......
Would the US and it's allies be interested in controlling that piece of real estate?
I think they would be. Most definitely.

It ties in with the Richard Holbrooke death news. Which I covered from the Kosovo angle in this post.
But, Greg at Goon Squad covered the Afghanistan angle and that is what I want to expand on in this piece.
Holbrooke's latest posting in Afghanistan as a 'Statesman' extraordinaire?
Yah! Making peace and bringing democracy to the people of Afghanistan!
No way in hell.
Aiding with the Opium production in Afghanistan?
You know it!
Greg has a must watch video in his post regarding Holbrooke, Opium and Afghanistan that will give you the background needed.
Here is some of latest news on just one of the Afghani drug kingpins, quite likely aided, abetted and vetted by Holbrooke & his Afghan policy. Maybe he walked around shoeless with them too?
Hajji Juma Khan, the biggest and most dangerous drug lord in Afghanistan who was arrested and transported to New York to face charges under a new American narco-terrorism law in 2008, was a longtime American informer, according to current and former American officials.
According to the New York Times, Central Intelligence Agency officers and Drug Enforcement Administration agents relied on Khan as a valued source, who provided information about the Taliban, Afghan corruption and other drug traffickers
Hajji Juma Khan, paid for so called intelligence by the US. About other drug traffickers.
Is it any wonder he got to be the biggest and most powerful drug lord in Afghanistan.
Aided by America, he got all his competitors taken down!
In a series of videotaped meetings in Washington hotels, Mr. Juma Khan offered tantalizing leads to the C.I.A. and D.E.A., in return for what he hoped would be protected status as an American asset
Interestingly he (Khan) is connected with another CIA informant, brother of Hamid Karzai, Ahmed Wali Karzai, I have covered his CIA connected/taxpayer funding previously on the blog HERE.
In a 2006 confidential report to the drug agency reviewed by The New York Times, an Afghan informer stated that Mr. Juma Khan was working with Ahmed Wali Karzai, the political boss of southern Afghanistan, to take control of the drug trafficking operations left behind by Mr. Noorzai.
Mr Karzai, denies knowing Mr Khan??
Mr. Karzai denied any involvement with the drug trade and said that he had never met Mr. Juma Khan. “I have never even seen his face,” he said through a spokesman
Don't you believe it!
Mr Juma Khan had been working with the CIA since as early as 2001!
Isn't that interesting?
He had met repeatedly with C.I.A. officers in Afghanistan beginning in 2001 or 2002.Before or after 9/11????
-He had been paid large amounts of cash by the United States, according to people with knowledge of the case.
-The 2006 Washington meetings were an opportunity for both sides to determine, in face-to-face talks, whether they could take their relationship to a new level of cooperation?
-One reason the Americans could justify bringing Mr. Juma Khan to Washington was that they claimed to have no solid evidence that he was smuggling drugs into the United States.
No solid evidence?
And in the free and democratic west, you are never going to know the truth. Because a plea bargain is being worked out for Mr Khan.
Now, plea negotiations are quietly under way. A plea bargain might keep many of the details of his relationship to the United States out of the public record.
They don't brown. They get old, but don't show it.
Which is why this article, very cleverly, calls them botox apples.
Okanagan Specialty Fruits, a Canadian biotechnology company, has petitioned the USDA for approval of its genetically modified "non-browning apple." The company is marketing the fruit as the "Arctic" while critics have taken to referring to them as "Botox apples" because they give a false impression of being young and healthy.
Then there is the Botox factor.
"We here at the Center for Food Safety are actually concerned that by not turning brown it may not alert cooks and consumers to the fact that these apples are spoiled"
Even there bruises won't show.

Covered this unusual news originally here
(That was yesterday, December 17/2010, when this news story was initially reported on)
LOS ANGELES — The simple wooden coffin that was supposed to be Lee Harvey Oswald's final resting place will soon have a new resting place of its own after a mystery bidder bought it at auction for more than $87,000.
It sold Thursday evening for $87,469, which includes a 20 percent buyers' fee.
He declined to provide details on the winning bidder, but said the bidder might speak publicly Friday.
In this piece the auction house claims the buyer wants to announce the purchase to the world,
on his own.
Auction house officials declined Friday to release the name of the bidder who purchased Lee Harvey Oswald's coffin. It is highly unlikely the successful bidder will inform the press of his purchase.
"It's something he wants to do himself," said Laura Yntema, manager of the Santa Monica, Calif.-based Nate D. Sanders Auctions.
The purchaser bid $87,468 for the artifact in a contest with two other bidders that lasted until 8 p.m. Pacific time Thursday, more than three hours after the auction's scheduled close.Yntema declined to offer information about the winning bidder, other than to say it was an individual collector rather than a museum.
Why would he?
Wondering if he was connected to the assassination somehow??
Could his last name could be Bush?
It could be....
Of course, it could be someone else.

Bill C-36 passed. What does this mean for food freedom?
video there, worth watching.
Corporatist Canada's Bill C-36 (Canada Consumer Product Safety Act): A new law to undermine the rule of law?
Every time I hear the Minister of Health promoting the new Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (Bill C-36), I think of George Orwell’s book 1984 and the famous “Ministry of Truth,” which was responsible for deceiving the public. It’s not that the Minister or Health Canada are lying per se. Rather, the main justifications for the Bill are misleading to the average Canadian.
The two main justifications given for the Bill are as follows: 1) Health Canada does not currently have the power to order the recall of a dangerous product. 2) Our consumer product legislation needs to be updated. When the average person hears that Health Canada does not have any power to recall a dangerous product, they are misled into thinking that Health Canada does not have the power to protect us from dangerous products. This is false. Today, in the very rare event that a manufacturer will not recall a dangerous product, Health Canada can obtain a Court injunction, obtain a search warrant to seize the product and make a binding ministerial order under the Hazardous Products Act. All of these orders are binding and backed up by the police. The problem from Health Canada’s perspective is that they all involve independent supervision by an independent body (a Court or a Review Board). All the orders are also public.
In contrast, the recall power in Bill C-36 permits Health Canada to issue secret recall orders – they are specifically exempted from publication and review under the Statutory Instruments Act – that are not authorized or supervised by an independent body. This undermines the rule of law, which ensures the government cannot take control over your person or property without the authorization and supervision of independent Courts. To appreciate how important this is to a free society, imagine living in medieval times before the rule of law. If the state wanted your property, the soldiers simply came from the castle and took it. Hopefully, you were not killed in the process. The state was all. Political philosophers have constantly warned against ever undermining the rule of law.
It almost seems to be the 'Canadian' version of American legislation S-510.
Obviously another move to "harmonize" Canadian and American laws, to slip the North American Union into place. Commonly shortened to the NAU (or as the CFR calls it the "North American Community" Which is so much more 'friendly'.
But,this union is being put in place right under the noses of Americans, Canadians and Mexicans.
Odd though, no one ever opted (voted) for that shotgun marriage in any of the aformentioned countries???

Which is really social engineering and conditioning along with some good old torture tactics, largely humiliation, I had made mention that private planes and their passengers are not subject to this humiliation and degradation.
So if a "terrorist" really wanted to attack something, somewhere all this individual would have to do is charter a private plane and BINGO.
It is so obvious that airport screening besides profit making has another motivation.
So this is a rather interesting news story.
That just confirms my theory.
That those with money, can circumvent the scrutiny.
As for the rest??
A Zogby International poll released last week found that 42% of likely voters said that enhanced pat-down search techniques and the increased use of full-body scanners by the TSA would cause them to use a different mode of transportation.
The trade groups that represent private charter jets and rental car businesses say the switch has already begun.
Demand for charter jets is up 52% so far in November over the same period last year, said Joe Leader, president of the Air Taxi-Air Charter Assn., a trade group for charter jet companies.
"The majority of that can be credited to an increase in business travel and economic recovery, but the TSA security hassle factor has absolutely had an additive effect on air taxi and air charter demand," he said.

In honour of the passing of Richard Holbrooke. Globalist, war criminal.
Like so many of his ilk.
Who wouldn't have recognized a true opportunity for peace if it hit him in the face.....
Know for his 'peace agreement', at gun point.
And the funding and support of the terrorist organization the KLA.
Here are some pics, quite interesting.. Birds of a feather?
Richard Holbrooke and his buddies in the KLA
Madeline Albright (sanctions were worth all the dead Iraqi children) and look Kosovo's Prime Minister (now) Hashim Thaci (Leader of the KLA)
From Richard Holbrooke to the KLA. Gun and drug runners. But, that ain't all!
According to news today guns, drugs and terror were not the only rackets the KLA were running.
They, including the now PM of Kosovo, were involved in the black market organ trafficking, business.
Thanks Chuckyman for bringing this to my attention.
From the KLA to the Prime Minister of Kosovo?
Hashim Thaci, who was part and parcel of the KLA, installed as Prime Minister of Kosovo.
Kosovo declared independance and is immediately recognized, of course by the US, in the same way as Israel was..
And we all wonder why the world is a mess?
With leaders such as this bunch of war criminals, terrorists and just plain criminals??
What is there to wonder?
Except why do the people tolerate it?

A good piece by Paul Craig Roberts-
Why does the FBI Orchestrate Fake Terror Plots?
The latest one snared Osman Mohamud, a Somali-American teenager in Portland, Oregon. The Associated Press report by William Mall and Nedra Pickler (11-27-10) is headlined in Yahoo News: "Somali-born teen plotted car-bombing in Oregon."
This is a misleading headline as the report makes it clear that it was a plot orchestrated by federal agents. Two sentences into the news report we have this: "The bomb was an elaborate fake supplied by the [FBI] agents and the public was never in danger, authorities said."
The teenager was supplied with a fake bomb and a fake detonator
Another obvious one. I had covered this one way back-
Perhaps the most obvious of these cases is "the Miami seven," a hapless group of Christian-Zionist-Muslims that called themselves the "Sea of David" and were quietly living in a Florida warehouse awaiting biblical end times. Along came the FBI posing as Al Qaeda and offered them $50,000 and an Al Qaeda swearing-in ceremony.
What is the agenda?
-One agenda is to justify wars of aggression that are war crimes under the Nuremberg standard created by the US government itself.
-Another agenda is to create a police state. A police state can control people who object to their impoverishment for the benefit of the superrich much more easily than can a democracy endowed with constitutional civil liberties.
-Another agenda is to get rich. Terror plots, whether real or orchestrated, have created a market for security. Dual Israeli citizen Michael Chertoff, former head of US Homeland Security, is the lobbyist who represents Rapiscan, the company that manufactures the full body porno-scanner.
I myself would also throw the Toronto 18 and the Underwear bomber in there as state sponsored and created false flags. More on the Toronto18 to come.
How does the FBI go about making this happen?
Interesting news article here (Washington Post)
"This is Farouk al-Aziz, code name Oracle," he said into the keys as he sat in his parked car in this quiet community south of Los Angeles. "It's November 13th, 4:30 a.m. And we're hot."
The undercover FBI informant - a convicted forger named Craig Monteilh - then drove off for 5 a.m. prayers at the Islamic Center of Irvine, where he says he spied on dozens of worshipers in a quest for potential terrorists.
Monteilh's mission as an informant backfired. Muslims were so alarmed by his talk of violent jihad that they obtained a restraining order against him.
He had helped build a terrorism-related case against a mosque member, but that also collapsed. The Justice Department recently took the extraordinary step of dropping charges against the worshiper, who Monteilh had caught on tape agreeing to blow up buildings, law enforcement officials said. Prosecutors had portrayed the man as a dire threat.
Compounding the damage, Monteilh has gone public revealing secret FBI methods and charging that his "handlers" trained him to entrap Muslims as he infiltrated their mosques, homes and businesses. He is now suing the FBI.
Officials declined to comment on specific details of Monteilh's tale but confirm that he was a paid FBI informant. Court records and interviews corroborate not only that Monteilh worked for the FBI he says he made $177,000, tax-free, in 15 months but that he provided vital information on a number of cases.
They got a guy, a bona fide criminal, and obviously trained him and sent him to infiltrate mosques," Syed said. "And when things went sour, they ditched him and he got mad. It's like a soap opera, for God's sake."
Just like a soap opera. A concocted drama.
But I digress.... and strongly suggest you read the rest of that article from the Washington Post.
Also, refresh your memory with this blast from the blog's past
Five Muslim community workers have accused MI5 of waging a campaign of blackmail and harassment in an attempt to recruit them as informants.
The men claim they were given a choice of working for the Security Service or face detention and harassment in the UK and overseas.
As the so called intelligence agencies conduct themselves in the US and Canada, they conduct themselves in Britain.
There is a pattern here.

This is for 2010-
Pay on Wall Street is on pace to break a record high for a second consecutive year, according to a study conducted by The Wall Street Journal.
About three dozen of the top publicly held securities and investment-services firms—which include banks, investment banks, hedge funds, money-management firms and securities exchanges—are set to pay $144 billion in compensation and benefits this year, a 4% increase from the $139 billion paid out in 2009, according to the survey.
Notice that the $139 Billion was paid out last year, in what was economically a horrendous year for the majority. And this year, 2010, the compensations and benefits will be even higher.
So while citizens everywhere are losing their homes and enduring hardships, for the actions of the scum banksters. Wall St is having a heyday. With taxpayers money.
Besides the obvious greed and totally undeserved payouts. The 'poor' banksters are considering paying bonuses early to avoid possible tax increases.
Wall Street Worries as Congress Debates Bush Tax Cuts
Just about all of the large banks on Wall Street are considering doling out bonuses this year rather than waiting until early next year, the Times reports, so that bankers' compensation will not be subject to higher taxes. Most banks are reportedly waiting for Goldman Sachs to make the first move.
Are you and I able to avoid higher taxes?
The myth of Canada's banks not needing a bail-out and being so secure?
And of course bonuses
Eight billion is not enough (in bonus pay)
That’s the message that Bay Street delivered to the McGuinty Liberals in Queens Park; eight billion dollars the amount that the captains of Bay Street paid themselves in bonuses last year for having the wisdom to accept the largest corporate bailout in Canadian history. The seventy five billion dollar bank bailout by Canadian taxpayers, that on a per capita basis matches the U.S bank bailout.
Having heard the message the McGuinty Liberals, supported by the Hudak Conservatives have turned its government’s rightful priorities on its head, abandoned fiscal responsibility and moral obligations to throw a further $2 .4 billion of no strings attached corporate tax cuts at their feet. This untargeted tax windfall will cost each and every Ontario household over $500/yr in lost services and increased costs.
Politicians agree with Corporations when Corporations say they need these tax breaks to create jobs and get the economy going. But the numbers prove them wrong. After 10 years of fiscally irresponsible corporate tax cuts in Ontario the rate of corporate investment here in the Ontario economy has actually gone down. Can anyone say Hersheys? Look around where are the promised good jobs. Ontario’s families have paid and paid, and are now being told to pay again. They have paid with increased tuition costs, paid with decreased access to Health care, paid with school closings, tainted meat, unsafe water, and an unstable low paid job market, dominated by private manpower agencies. Enough! A recent Angus Reid poll confirms that 81% of Ontarians support corporations paying their fair share of taxes; because eight billion dollars in bonuses is obscene.
Why do politicians agree with corporations? The don't create jobs? The ever increasing rate of unemployment makes that obvious.
Ontarians (Canadians) want corporations to pay their fair share.
Ontarians (Canadians) pay the salaries of politicians. Shouldn't the politicians listen to the people? Does it get any more obvious who these politicians really serve?

-A leaked report on an investigation into the cholera epidemic in Haiti has linked the outbreak to United Nations peacekeeping troops, despite conclusive evidence, and has also hinted at the possibility of a cover-up
The report by French disease expert Renaud Piarroux, which was commissioned by the French and Haitian governments, has suggested that poor sanitation at the UN camp for Nepalese troops – and specifically their toilets’ contamination of the Arbonite river that runs alongside the base at Mirebalais in central Haiti – was the source of the disease that has killed more than 2,000 people in Haiti since it surfaced in October.
"No other hypothesis could be found to explain the outbreak of a cholera epidemic," Pirraoux wrote. The first cases of cholera in this outbreak were on the banks of the Artibonite river.
That all changed in mid-October this year when a cholera outbreak was registered in the recent developments pinpoint the source to the Nepalese base of United Nations Mission (MINUSTAH) in Haiti
New photos and video evidence (see below) show a truck from the Nepalese MINUSTAH base dumping sewage into a tributary of the Artibonite River in Mirebalais.
Sewage traveled 400m and contaminated the Artibonite -- a major source of clean water for the Central Plateau and the Artibonite areas.
getting back to opening link..
In the report, the epidemiologist said that he could not prove there was cholera inside the base or among the soldiers because septic tanks and pipes that would have helped confirm sanitation problems were not there when he visited.
A spokesman for the Nepalese army had dismissed the report.
“It cannot be ruled out that steps have been taken to remove the suspected fecal matter and to erase the traces of an epidemic of cholera among the soldiers,” Piarroux wrote.
The UN “remains very receptive to any scientific debate or investigation”.
I note the report was commissioned by the Haitian and the government of France.
The UN is receptive and the Nepalese dismiss it.
Their study of remains and literature from ancient Egypt and Greece and earlier periods – carried out at Manchester’s KNH Centre for Biomedical Egyptology and published in Nature Reviews Cancer – includes the first histological diagnosis of cancer in an Egyptian mummy.
Finding only one case of the disease in the investigation of hundreds of Egyptian mummies, with few references to cancer in literary evidence, proves that cancer was extremely rare in antiquity. The disease rate has risen massively since the Industrial Revolution, in particular childhood cancer – proving that the rise is not simply due to people living longer.
Wondering aloud.. what role could the many vaccines given to children play in this increase in childhood cancer?
Also, continuing to think aloud.....
What of all this talk of genetic "predisposition"? If the ancients didn't have cancer there should be no genetic predisposition to it. Unless? Is it possible that pollution and later vaccines and toxic factory farmed and genetically modified foods have actually altered human DNA? Making humans more susceptible to cancer?
We know exposure to radiation and many other contaminants can alter DNA
How about the overuse and abuse of anti-biotics? Not just as prescribed by doctors, how about all the antibiotic used in factory farming? There has been some recent news on antibiotics triggering asthma in infants and reducing your immune sytem to nil. A suppressed immune system would certainly lead to a plethora of diseases including asthma and cancer.
Back to the cancer as a man made disease-
Professor Rosalie David, at the Faculty of Life Sciences, said: “In industrialised societies, cancer is second only to cardiovascular disease as a cause of death. But in ancient times, it was extremely rare. There is nothing in the natural environment that can cause cancer. So it has to be a man-made disease, down to pollution and changes to our diet and lifestyle.”
She added: “The important thing about our study is that it gives a historical perspective to this disease. We can make very clear statements on the cancer rates in societies because we have a full overview. We have looked at millennia, not one hundred years, and have masses of data.”
Some people propose that the lack of tumours in remains is due to them not being well preserved. However-
Dr. Zimmerman has performed experimental studies indicating that mummification preserves the features of malignancy and that tumours should actually be better preserved than normal tissues. In spite of this finding, hundreds of mummies from all areas of the world have been examined and there are still only two publications showing microscopic confirmation of cancer. Radiological surveys of mummies from the Cairo Museum and museums in Europe have also failed to reveal evidence of cancer.
As the team moved through the ages, it was not until the 17th century that they found descriptions of operations for breast and other cancers and the first reports in scientific literature of distinctive tumours have only occurred in the past 200 years, such as scrotal cancer in chimney sweeps in 1775, nasal cancer in snuff users in 1761 and Hodgkin’s disease in 1832.
Professor Zimmerman said: “In an ancient society lacking surgical intervention, evidence of cancer should remain in all cases. The virtual absence of malignancies in mummies must be interpreted as indicating their rarity in antiquity, indicating that cancer causing factors are limited to societies affected by modern industrialization”.
