Heads up! Somalia in western sights?

While your eyes have been diverted to the "colour revolution in Iran... things have been heating up in Somalia!

I am not going to go into the whole sordid history here, I have other posts on this blog that have already covered this, so here is the latest.

Somali president calls emergency

On Saturday, June 20th)Somalia asked for urgent foreign military intervention - a call backed by the African Union.
and requests foreign intervention?!!!

Initially(June 20th) Ethiopia rejects the Somali request

However today (June 22nd) it is reported that Ethiopia has entered Somalia.

Must have got there marching orders from on high?

Less than a year after fleeing in the face of an Islamist insurgency, Ethiopian forces have come back to help prevent a moderate government from collapsing at the hands of militant Islamists.

Umm, hate to rain on the propaganda parade, ok, well no, I don't really hate to.
Ethiopian forces did not flee an Islamist insurgency a year ago, they left.
The time had come to go. So they left.
Well actually here is the skinny....

Ethiopia agreed to pull out last October as part of a UN-backed peace deal between the fragile transitional government and one of the main opposition factions.
This made the Somalians very happy, no surprise there, who likes an occupier?
Somali joy as Ethiopians withdraw (see link above)

So despite the bogus claim that Ethiopian troops were "fleeing" an insurgency a year ago, that was not the case, at all.

So what is going on with this latest Somali episode?
Is this going to be the new hot button western media destination?

Iran is fading away quickly. Just can't keep the momentum up on the western attempt at intervention in Iran? I guess it is difficult when the masses of people don't really have their heart set on regime change?
Riot police fired tear gas to break up an opposition rally in Tehran today after around 1,000 demonstrators defied a threat from the Revolutionary Guard to crush any further protests over the disputed presidential election.

1,000 protesters in Iran. Yet in Georgia after two months of protests they can get 50,000 protesters to show up. Is that the difference between legitimate and illegitimate dissent?
One has staying power? The other, not so much?

Anyway, back to Somalia.
I came across a news story that I can only find western media outlets covering.

Somali Islamists order teenagers' hands, legs amputated

I can only find this story, at this time on Reuters, AFP and the BBC. (BBC has picked up the AFP story)

It seems a really vague story.
Allegedly 4 men, 4 "young men", no names.
No indication of when this punishment is to be doled out, nothing.
Some details, rather gory about the weather effecting amputees?
But, is it true?
We have sure seen these kind of false stories before!
One of the most famous being the incubators and Iraqi soldiers.

Coupled with the spin about the Ethiopian troops allegedly fleeing Somali last year, I got thinking...

Is this more of the kind of spin, the propaganda, the misleading news, that is needed to sway western opinion?

Oh look at these bad people in Somali, ISLAMISTS, amputating the limbs of nameless "young men"

  1. Oh Phooey to Somalia, the real emergency is in California. I hear that they are talking about amputating Arny's feet to stop him from sticking them in his mouth and things are So bad in Washington that obama is slaughtering flies just to make ends meet.

  2. Well yeah, there is that too!

Arnie with no feet, "I'll be back" just doesn't have the same appeal now does it.

He should have stuck to acting, though honestly he did do that rather poorly.

As for Somalia, there is always some gig on the go, isn't there?
    If not plan a, there is b, c and d and e!!!!

    It goes on and on.
Heard an excellent interveiw with William Engdhal today.
    ever hear tell of him?

  3. I would love to see what Mcgowan could dig up on Arnie...

  4. Didn't anyone ever tell the US that one can make far more friends with honey as opposed to vinegar?

    What an absolute clusterF***.

    Hmmm codeword: bases

  5. In 1492, Chemor, chief Rabbi of Spain, wrote to the Grand Sanhedrin, which had its seat in Constantinople, for advice, when a Spanish law threatened expulsion.2 This was the reply:

” Beloved brethren in Moses, we have received your letter in which you tell us of the anxieties and misfortunes which you are enduring. We are pierced by as great pain to hear it as yourselves.

The advice of the Grand Satraps and Rabbis is the following:

    1. As for what you say that the King of Spain obliges you to become Christians: do it, since you cannot do otherwise.

    2. As for what you say about the command to despoil you of your property: make your sons merchants that they may despoil, little by little, the Christians of theirs.

    3. As for what you say about making attempts on your lives: make your sons doctors and apothecaries, that they may take away Christians’ lives.

    4. As for what you say of their destroying your synagogues: make your sons canons and clerics in order that they may destroy their churches. [Emphasis mine]

    5. As for the many other vexations you complain of: arrange that your sons become advocates and lawyers, and see that they always mix in affairs of State, that by putting Christians under your yoke you may dominate the world and be avenged on them.

    6. Do not swerve from this order that we give you, because you will find by experience that, humiliated as you are, you will reach the actuality of power.

    2. The reply is found in the sixteenth century Spanish book, La Silva Curiosa, by Julio-Iniguez de Medrano (Paris, Orry, 1608), on pages 156 and 157, with the following explanation: “This letter following was found in the archives of Toledo by the Hermit of Salamanca, (while) searching the ancient records of the kingdoms of Spain; and, as it is expressive and remarkable, I wish to write it here.” — vide, photostat facing page 80.

~ The above was quoted from Waters Flowing Eastward by Paquita de Shishmareff, pp. 73-74

  6. yeah, whatever???

so did you guys like how the christian science monitor claimed that ethiopian troops fled last year as opposed to that fact they pulled out as part of a un agreement??

do they pay these people to fact check or do they pay them to toe the company line??

    Somalia's Prima Ballarin-a Returns

The tale of the brutal Somali pirates has taken something of a twist these past few days. The twist is, at least two sets of pirates have begun to appeal to their American sugar-mama, a woman from Virginia who it is claimed, has built up “a network of clan and sub-clan leaders in every region of the country” and who the bloodthirsty pirates regard as a respected Amira, or female leader. Pirates holding the Saudi oil tanker, the Sirius Star, have draped a banner over the side of the vessel and demand to negotiate with what calls their “American benefactor.”

A business associate of this modern hero claims that she “is greeted like royalty in Somalia, adding that the Somalis like her because she identifies their needs and comes up with solutions so they can support themselves” while “she is reportedly known in Somalia as Amira, or “Princess” in Arabic [and] has talked to the Somalis about being responsible for their own security and being their own coast guard.”

But who is this latter day Lawrence of Arabia, come to bring peace and happiness to the Somali people, and who has supposedly developed such cosy ties with elements of the country’s clan elites? It’s none other than Michelle Ballarin, the CEO of Select Armor.

Don’t remember Select Armor? Well, if you’ve been reading my blogs for a while, then you might. If not, then you need to look back and check up on their history. You can’t understand the rise of the Islamic Courts and the “Ethiopian” invasion to dislodge them without a glance.
