Georgia relocates parliament to international hub of weapons trafficking for Syrian rebels.(read the rest, please)
History may be funny in describing how massive reconstruction works in Georgia was paid for by Syrian Rebels.
The comment is a post from this site
It certainly is a look, from another angle, at who is benefiting by arming the rebel/terrorists in Syria
The writing is suggesting that Georgia has been a beneficiary of arms trafficking. Interesting, indeed
But, let's cut to the chase! Georgia moved it's parliament from the constitutionally enshrined location of Tiblisi, some 150 miles/220 kms to the west, to the reportedly run down location of Kutaisi
Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has inaugurated the country's new parliament building in the city of Kutaisi, some 220 kilometers (150 miles) from the capital Tbilisi.
Let's look at some possibilities?
Saakashvili said moving the parliament to Kutaisi, in west-central Georgia, would help unify the country and devolve power from Tbilisi. Maybe.
How about some other reasons?
Going back to the 2008 attack launched by Georgia on Russia. I am reminded, at that time, Russia knocked hard on Tiblisi’s door.
The show of strength must have sent a message to the government in Tiblisi. You are vulnerable.
Perhaps that was enough to encourage the move?
When we take a look at a map of Georgia and surrounding area. We notice the most direct route to Syria or Iran, across land, is through eastern Georgia. Is this a reason for concern?
How about this?
Kutaisi is closer to South Ossettia and Abkhazia. South Ossettia is the independent state that Georgia launched their attack on in 2008. If Russia were to move on Eastern Georgia, would the Saakashavili government move on South Ossettia and Abkhazia.?
Fortress mentality at play?
Looking at the map below, one can’t help but notice the new capital is surrounded by mountainous areas-

The new location could keep parliament/government safe from outsiders and safely away from most of the Georgian people.
But part of society thinks the real reason behind moving parliament is that Tbilisi is a stronghold of opposition to the current government and they want to get government institutions out of the way of the waves of protest which have rocked the capital every year since 2007. Protest rallies are usually held in front of the parliament building in Tbilisi, which is discomforting to the government.
The new Parliament building
Isn't Saakashvili making an interesting reference below in light of a movie that will surely big a box office smash??
"President Saakashvili says it is time for Prometheism, a geopolitical strategy to strengthen nationalism as a tool to undermine Russian influence"
Prometheism is a geopolical strategy developed by the Polish leader Józef Piłsudski (1867-1935), aimed at weakening Russia’s influence by supporting nationalistic movements.
The movie I am referring to is Prometheus
As the Times of India tell us: Prometheus promises shock and awe
Shock and Awe.
Thanks Kaspi for your comment. Took me down an interesting road.
