2013- The New Year

  1. Happy New Year Pen xxoo (((hug)))
All the best to you and yours for 2013 :)
Keep up the excellent work on your blog.
    Cheers A13

  2. Happy New Year and Best Wishes to you too

  3. All the best to you and yours for the New Year!

" Always drink upstream from the herd"

Forgot who said this, but, a good motto.

  4. The same to you Penny. 2013 is the year we move from the age of Pisces to the age of Aquarius. This is what the Mayan Ninth wave was actually saying not that Hollywood end of world crap. The age of Pisces was the age of the Anglo-Saxon where death, destruction and slavery was normal and rampant. The age of the Aquarius will bring their down fall and make peace really achievable for all, especially for our dear Syrians brothers and sisters.

  5. Is this the year of the Kurd split and the US|Saudi break? The carpet pulled out on Pakistan too as the US flips the game board over? Will Japan and China continue to play into the Western territorial trap? Or Does Japan, like Saudi, realize it is has already been cut loose? How will Russia react to both? The completion of the Eastern pipeline and the Japan LNG plant agreement is a hint..

    Jordan, Iraq, iran, Syria nexus
Jordan elections (Feb-13), brotherhood to boycott

    Kurds halt oil exports

Exxon pulls out of the south

And this.. In Iraq, Exxon oil deal foments talk of civil war – “One of the most sensitive tripwires is Exxon, which is preparing to drill for oil in the disputed territories at the heart of the military standoff. Iraq’s two most explosive political conflicts — over land and oil — are primed to combust. “The prime minister has been clear: If Exxon lays a finger on this territory, they will face the Iraqi army,” said Sami al-Askari, a Member of Parliament and confidant of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. “We don’t want war, but we will go to war, for oil and for Iraqi sovereignty.”

Confirmed: Pentagon deploys military forces to Jordan-Syria border

Rewind: Leak on Cross-Border Chases from Iraq (2005)

"American military forces in Iraq were authorized to pursue former members of Saddam Hussein’s government and terrorists across Iraq’s borders into Iran and Syria, according to a classified 2005 document that has been made public by an independent Web site....In October 2005, The New York Times reported that there had been a series of clashes between Army Rangers and Syrian troops along the border with Iraq. According to the 2005 document, American forces were also authorized to respond to a “hostile force” that used Syrian or Iranian territory to attack American troops in Iraq or that posed an “imminent threat” to American operations there. They were instructed to consult with a senior American commander if there was time. "

Rewind (2009): "U.S. military helicopters launched an extremely rare attack Sunday on Syrian territory close to the border with Iraq, killing eight people in a strike the government in Damascus condemned as "serious aggression." A U.S. military official said the raid by Special Forces targeted the foreign fighter network that travels through Syria into Iraq."

  7. And over in Pakistan

    Pakistan elections mid-year,_2013

  8. And then there is Saudi Arabia (& Japan)....

Saudi Arabia presents budget for next year - BALANCED...(may issue bonds to fund urban investment...Petrodollars drying up…)

IMF warns on Saudi deficits (this in the wake of the IEA suggesting the US would surpass Saudi in oil production and Russia in gas production

"The US will overtake Saudi Arabia and Russia to become the world’s largest global oil producer by the second half of this decade, according to the International Energy Agency, as the shale revolution redraws the global energy landscape."

US Hail Mary: US is banking on its captive (?) and “cheap” natgas to spur a competitive advantage?

Or maybe the gas isn’t so captive (and Asia super premium dwindles…)

Japan: “The country paid an average $16.84 per million British thermal units for contracted and spot LNG in September, up 2.3 percent from a year ago, according to the Ministry of Finance in Tokyo. The prices, which include term and spot purchases, are down 6.8 percent from a record $18.07 in July.”

US spot $3.35  one way to bleed the Japanese

  9. Though Abe looks to restart the Nukes

Incidentally as they bleed the Yen and throw the ball back to Bernanke (Abe intent on “defeating” deflation

Western World Carry = no use for Japan

In view of the hyperbole about land disputes, remember that Japan and China launched a currency swap to “avoid the dollar”

Dec-11: China and Japan announced a wide-ranging currency accord on Christmas day that is expected to give the Yuan a more prominent role in international trade. Among the measures, the two countries agreed to promote direct yuan-yen trade, rather than converting their currencies first to dollars, and also for Japan to hold yuan in its foreign-exchange reserves

Jan-13: Is Japan (like Saudi Arabia) awakening to the western prolonged bleed strategy…
“Japan Lashes out over Dollar, Euro: Japan's new finance minister upped the ante in the country's war of words against the strong yen, lashing out at the U.S. and Europe for letting their currencies weaken dramatically and calling on the U.S. to strengthen the dollar.” "The U.S. ought to do its job and make the dollar strong. And what about the euro?" Mr. Aso said Friday, during his first set of press interviews after taking office.

Dec-12: Russia completes Asia oil link as Europe frets: “It took 6 years and more than $25 billion for oil pipeline monopoly Transneft to build the East Siberia - Pacific Ocean (ESPO) link to the port of Kozmino, which had formally relied on a rail link.”

And Russia and Japan have just singed a major LNG plant development: Russia and Japan signed an agreement on Saturday to develop plans for a $7 billion liquefied natural gas plant on Russia's Pacific coast, potentially delaying gas export pipeline projects to neighboring China and South Korea.

Back in November Japan and Russia discussed a pipeline

After Japan interlude back to Saudi Cyber-attack: Here is what Saudi minister said on Dec 9?
"Oil giant Saudi Aramco said on Sunday that an August cyber-attack on its computer network targeted not just the company but the kingdom’s economy as a whole. The interior ministry, which joined Aramco’s investigation into the attack that affected some 30,000 of the firm’s computers, said it was carried out by organized hackers from SEVERAL DIFFERENT foreign countries."

Now here is what Saudi said in the wake of the attacks:
"Saudi Arabia warned ministries and government entities and companies against an Israeli attempt to infiltrate their computer systems, a report published by a Saudi business daily said. The warning urged them to avoid dealing with foreign companies, especially German and American companies with strong ties with Israel."

And the US allegation that Iran hackers did it..

    The attacks came Mid-August (15th)...

August 9th KSA threatens to shoot down Israeli planes en route to Iran..

  10. cont'd
Press TV (?) reports Bandar assassinated ((Jul-31)

Crown prince Nayef (KSA) dies (Jun-18): still not clear if it was Geneva (BBC) or US (Wapo)???

**Incidentally King just promoted Nayef son to head the Interior Ministry: “In 2009, the prince was targeted by a suicide bomber from al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, but escaped with only minor injuries.” ???

And finally, like Iraq, the sectarian fuel stokes..Saudi Forces Shot Martyred 18-year-old Shia Protester in Qatif

“Local activists said on Friday that the Saudi regime forces opened fire on demonstrators in the Qatif district, east of the capital, Riyadh, killing 18-year-old Ali al-Marar.”

And then there was Turkey..(& Israel)

“Turkey dropped its ban on cooperating with Israel as a third-nation NATO partner at the 28-member alliance meeting in Brussels on Dec. 4, in response to a reprimand from Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen that the ban had "created a lack of confidence among the partners." The same meeting approved the deployment of Patriots on the Turkish border with Syria.”

  11. You are a gentlewoman and a scholar Ms Pen.

  12. Very well said! Wishing you all the best for a great New Year 2013!
