Amazon Joins Police Ban Of Facial Recognition Tech

Interesting move on the part of Amazon? Perhaps Amazon can  provide "police services" for hire as part of a new expansive neo liberal business model?

Privatizing, public services and and making them for profit = Neo-liberalism (a modified form of liberalism tending to favor free-market capitalism) (t is generally associated with policies of economic liberalization including privatization, deregulation, globalization, free trade, austerity, and reductions in government spending in order to increase the role of the private sector in the economy and society)

Lo and behold BLM and Antifa pushing for the entire justice system to be abolished. Defunded.
In favour of what? Replaced with what?

E-commerce giant Amazon joins other tech firms with announcement it will pause police use of its facial recognition software
Amazon has said it will implement a one-year moratorium on police use of its facial recognition software.
The decision is a blow for US law enforcement, as Amazon had until now stoutly defended the use of its facial recognition system (called Amazon Rekognition) by law enforcement in the United States.
The Amazon announcement comes a day after IBM called for police reform in the United States, and cancelled all its facial recognition programs in light of ongoing concern at the use of the technology.

We’re implementing a one-year moratorium on police use of Amazon’s facial recognition technology,” blogged Amazon. “We will continue to allow organisations like Thorn, the International Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and Marinus Analytics to use Amazon Rekognition to help rescue human trafficking victims and reunite missing children with their families.”
But Amazon was clear that it was halting police use of Rekognition, for a year.
Personally, I'm not a fan of this technology.  That said it appears that Amazon is working to increase pressure on the police forces in perfect synchronicity with a push to defund the police. As demanded by BLM and Antifa.
Undoubtedly Amazon will be waiting in the wings to profit from this problem, reaction, solution situation.

The Technocracy in motion... Expanding. Profiting.

  1. Getting rid of the law, police, doctors, hospitals, teachers, schools. As Amazing Polly says in her latest video...all the above will be replaced by AI. In the case of police, it will be surveillance microchips in our bodies tracking our every movement. In the case of doctors and hospitals...if we're sick they'll just make an algorithm judgment to let us die.

    1. I was thinking about this idea of if there is no facial recognition- or none by the police or others
      what would take it's place?
And the idea of being surveillance through chipping crossed my mind. I mean dogs, cats, livestock is all chipped for tracking. Why not people, right?
(of course I do not agree with that at all)
I don't even like the idea of animals being chipped.

    2. Here's the video by Amazing Polly if you haven't already watched it. It describes where we're going with all this technocracy:

    3. Thanks GC- Tomorrow will be my day to watch this video.
      At some point in time..

  2. Chiming in with my 2¢. I would be wary of the Amazing Polly! I found her about six months ago and watched several of her newer videos. Curious about the rest of her output, I went all the way back to her original videos from about four years ago. She started off doing videos about narcissists and that was the subject, solely or in conjunction with other topics, for the first two years. Then she started moving into other "conspiracy" type subjects, including quite a few about Muslims/Islam (not in a good way). She is supportive of Trump and believes that Q-Anon is a real thing. In quite a few of her videos, she dresses up and portrays herself as the person she is talking about. For example, in one of her videos, she dressed up as an imam and called herself a "trans imam". When someone challenged her in the comments suggesting she wouldn't dare do that in "blackface" she basically dismissed his pointing out her hypocrisy. She also, allegedly, was so fearful of what is happening in Canada that she moved out of the country. Plus, she seems to have a nice computer/microphone, etc. setup. I'm always wary of anyone who looks too professional. ;)

Another thing is she seems to be getting a lot of notice over the last month or so. I've come across many places that link to her, and someone I correspond with and who should really know better regularly sends links to her. So she's all of a sudden getting a lot more attention and that is worrisome to me.

    1. Thanks for the heads up Gwen- I will keep your concerns in mind
